But the reality is that thought often has more to do with how we feel about ourselves than her actual interest in being our friend. I personally can name a handful of friends who I thought were too cool for me, only later to learn they thought the same about me! I messed up… One of my biggest soapboxes is that we’re stronger together than apart. I truly believe the more we’re willing to listen to each other’s stories, the more united we can actually be. And yet, I implied yesterday in my inauguration post that “we’ve made it” without recognizing that many people don’t feel part of that “we” (at least in a celebratory way!). There’s a lot of people who didn’t feel like anything about yesterday was a celebration. And that’s a hard place to be. Trust me. I know - I’ve been in that same spot. So, to those who are hurting. I'm sorry if you felt dismissed by me. My goal in this space is to create a place where moms feel seen, and making someone feel dismissed is never my intention.
(unless you’re bringing hate…that’s getting shut down real quick.) This is not a takes-back, however. This is an addition. I understand if it’s hard for some of you to be in connection with me knowing I believe our previous leader was detrimental to our country (and our relationships with each other!), and I get if you need to unfollow. We’re all doing the best we can right now to manage our emotions and you’ve got to do what you have to do. But my hope is that over this next year WE all can continue to be in at least some sort of relationship with each other so we can ultimately hear each other’s stories and realize that we have more in common than we do apart. That said… I also have to again acknowledge my privilege here. It costs me very little to stay in relationship with those who think differently than me. The same cannot be said of my black, brown, and LGBTQ friends. It can be beyond painful for them to be in relationship with those who truly believe they are less-than. My hope is that those of us who can stay in relationship do, and we speak up for those who can’t.

I don't think I realized how much stress I'd been carrying about our country's leadership (or lack thereof) for the last few years. This coming from someone who is SO PRIVILEGED. I literally had nothing to PERSONALLY fear these last four years. But I can't say the same for my black and brown and LGBTQ friends. I just can't even IMAGINE the relief they felt today.
